Man United too quick to sack Jose Mourinho, says Marouane Fellaini
Marouane Fellaini considers Manchester United were fast and emphasise that the quick turnaround of the club in hiring and firing managers.
The Belgian spent before leaving Old Trafford in January to get Shandong Luneng in the Super League, at United, during which time he played under four different supervisors. Fellaini won Europa League and the EFL Cup under Mourinho in 2017 but the Portuguese was sacked last year following a poor run of results.
But Uniteds issues have not settled with Mourinhos death – using successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer presiding over the clubs worst start to a year for 30 years this term – and Fellaini considers the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss ought to have been given longer.
They earned one of the best managers in the world in Jose Mourinho, he wanted to create a team and they sacked him, Fellaini informed reporters. It is not easy to build a team in that moment, you need over a couple of decades.
I really dont know what they will do with Solskjaer but, for me, to win things and also to improve, you will need time. Mourinho, for its very first season, he did incredibly, he enhanced the group, won matters. Ok, the second season was a little more challenging, but he tried, you know, and also did his best to help the group. They then made a decision to sack him.
For me, yes [United were overly hasty in sacking Mourinho] because a manager like this comes and that he needs a good deal of gamers to execute his own philosophy. He wished to build his group and after two decades, or two years and a half, they made a decision to sack him since the results werent there.
The 31-year-old played under David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Mourinho and, briefly, Solskjaer throughout his time at Old Trafford, winning the FA Cup under the Dutchman, and he says none of those coaches were given enough time at the role by the club.
They earned Moyes, they didnt give him his a while. They earned Van Gaal , they handed him and we began to do some things , he even won the cup , but after that the supervisor was sacked by them only because they want to win quickly, I think. A supervisor just like Van Gaal tactically is extremely robust and has a great deal of knowledge and they snatched him, he said.
However, when you look to build a group you need time, not alter a supervisor every two decades, every year. They would like to sack him, if the supervisor does not perform well for four or five matches.
Manchester United won every thing for years together with Sir Alex Ferguson, therefore for another person to come and do what he did is not that easy. They had a solid base and a team. Its not easy for someone to come and perform like Sir Alex Ferguson. Individuals and fans of Manchester United want that, but soccer has changed, the mentality of players has shifted.
Fellaini was very important to a number of those younger players at United for the time that they spent on social networking and reckons Solskjaer will struggle to be aggressive simply by relying on youngsters after deciding to move on more seasoned gamers like himself, Romelu Lukaku along with Alexis Sanchez.
You see some players go into the dressing room after games and move directly onto social media, he added. It is wrong. Now youve got a manager who desired young players and they will be down and up, up and down; thats football, that is what happens with players.
Of course you cant play just young players, you need a mixture. To win matches, to acquire games, to win massive games experience is needed by you. Of course you may win with young players, but not each game.
Fellaini included:The players who left are gamers of experience. So that the trainer decided he did not need them – thats the coachs option. He decided he did not want Sanchez or Lukaku. Thats his problem. Hes his own players today, therefore he has to handle it.
He [Solskjaer] didnt have a dialogue with me if Ill play or not. I signed up a contract for a couple of years, among the greatest managers in the world needed me to stay. But after that, when a new manager comes and Im not in his plans, of course it was time for me to depart and I dont regret it whatsoever.
